New site direction

November 14th, 2011 | 1 Comment | Posted in General

Given the fact that I am unable to be really active with this site, I am thinking about taking it in another direction.

One option I am considering is creating a community where people create profiles, post their goals, track their progress, and blog about their weight loss experiences.  I think that it helps to keep the motivation levels higher when you have a community of people encouraging each other.  I realize that there are other sites out there like this, but it is something I would really like to try anyway.  Meanwhile, I will continue to post as often as I can.

What do you think?  Would you use something like this to track your progress and help keep yourself motivated?  Let me know in the comments!

Hit a Plateau

August 10th, 2011 | 1 Comment | Posted in General

I haven’t been updating the blog as much lately because the past while has been extremely busy.  We spent a week camping and have been busy with renovations, etc.  I haven’t lost interest in the blog, just have not had a whole lot of time to create thoughtful posts.

Here is a quick update on my progress – there is none!  I seem to have hit a plateau.  I have been stuck at the same weight for the past few weeks.

I have been working out at least 3 times per week, either running or hitting the gym and lifting weights.  My eating has been about 90% on track with a few cheats here and there, but never a whole cheat day.

I have been looking into ways to bust through a plateau and I have found a couple that look interesting.  One of them is doing sprints (running) every other day, even if only for 10 minutes.  The other thing that has caught my attention is, well, I’m going to research it some more and leave it for another post.

Give me a couple more days to look into it and I will be back with more info.

One year later

June 17th, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in General

I can’t believe it has been a year since I was posting here (see my previous post about why). Over the course of the last year I got down to the lowest weight I have been in many years. Last summer I exercised regularly and got down to 225 pounds.

At the end of summer, we moved across the country so that I can continue my schooling in a very competitive program. I was able to keep going to the gym and running for a couple of months, but once school started getting busy, I began to lose motivation to exercise. It was very sporadic for the majority of the 8 months in school. I also started struggling with snacking while studying. I guess more correct would be to say I was struggling with NOT snacking. This lack of motivation to do anything other than school led me to gain back 25 pounds.

At the end of school I was at 250 pounds, and my most recent weigh in was 245 pounds. I am determined to get that weight back off this summer and continue to maintain or even lose weight slowly during the next year of school. Even when lectures and studying comprise 12-14 hours a day there’s got to be a way to find just 20 minutes to do some kind of intense exercise.

On the bright side, at least it gives me a reason to keep this blog going for longer!

I’m going to start with the weekly weigh ins again, as well as logging information about exercise and diet. My first weigh in is tomorrow…..

Let’s try this again

June 15th, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in General

I had given up on this blog a long time ago because for some unknown reason, it was not being indexed in google, and no one was finding it. I tried for a long time to get it listed with no luck. This has finally been rectified and so I’m going to give it another go.

I enjoy posting about weight loss and fitness because it helps to keep me motivated to stay healthy. I have had a bit of a roller coaster year which I’ll talk about in upcoming posts. I want to stay on track so hopefully this blog will help me and others like me.

Looking forward to posting again!

My name is Dave and I have struggled with my weight on and off for years. Over the years I have tried a number of different diets and weight loss programs. They all work, some better than others, but not many of them are really sustainable for the long term. Only fairly recently have I found a combination of healthy eating and exercise that is something I feel I can maintain for the rest of my life.

I hope to use this blog to share information with others who are either struggling to lose weight, or are just starting their weight loss journey. I also want to use it as a motivational tool to keep myself on the right track while losing the last 50 pounds that will get me to my goal weight.

I plan to post new weight loss, diet, and exercise information a few times per week. I will also be posting my weekly weigh in numbers and measurements, as well as before and after pics.
